About this film
Candido 200 is a color negative film from the London brand Candido: 135 format, 36 exposures, ISO 200, C-41 process. It is built on motion picture stock with the remjet anti-halation layer removed, giving it a cinematic character — saturated color, punchy contrast, fine grain, and a soft red glow around bright light sources.
Photographers who have shot it compare the look to late-90s and early-2000s films, and reviews keep repeating «blue skies that pop», «vivid color» and «vintage movie vibe».
Expiry date: 09/2026 — this film is expired. It expired only recently, so you can shoot it at box speed ISO 200 or give it +1/3 stop extra (EI 160).
This film is tungsten balanced (≈3200 K). In daylight, frames come out cool and bluish. For neutral color, use a warm 85B filter or correct the white balance when scanning. Under incandescent bulbs and indoors in the evening, color looks natural without a filter.
What the frames look like
Color: saturated; blue sky and sea render very dense — the maker suggests it for sunsets, sunrises, and the ocean.
Grain: fine, noticeably finer than Candido 400 and 800.
Contrast: high, with deep shadows, so watch shadow detail in harsh midday sun.
Halation: without a remjet, light scatters in the film base, and a red-orange halo appears around the sun, street lights, and reflections. Some call it magic; either way, plan for it.
How to shoot it
In sunlight without a filter: at box speed ISO 200 or with a little extra exposure (EI 160) — the blue cast is easy to remove when scanning.
With an 85B filter: it costs about 2/3 of a stop, so rate it at EI 125.
Under tungsten bulbs: ISO 200 without a filter gives the most natural color.
Look for backlight, street lamps and reflections on water — that is where the halation adds atmosphere.
Processing
Standard C-41, like any color negative film — the red-jet is already removed. I can develop and scan it for you and correct the white balance on the scans if you want the blue cast gone.
