About the film

Fujicolor Industrial 100 is Fujifilm’s Japanese “business use” colour negative film (業務用), made for documentation work: construction sites, insurance claims, reports. It was sold mainly in Japan, which is why the box is printed in Japanese. The process is standard C-41 (the box says CN-16, Fujifilm’s own name for the same process).

What to expect

The film was designed for accurate, neutral colour rather than a punchy “film look”. It expired in October 2011. Over fifteen years a colour emulsion loses a little speed and can show light base fog and a colour shift — how much depends on how this cassette was stored.

How to shoot it

For film this age I set the meter to ISO 50, i.e. one stop of extra exposure. Negative film forgives overexposure far better than underexposure: the shadows keep their detail and the fog shows less.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be developed in ordinary C-41?

Yes. CN-16 is Fujifilm’s name for C-41, and I develop films like this in my own lab.

How is Industrial different from ordinary Fujicolor 100?

It is a professional documentation line for the Japanese market: more neutral colour, built for accuracy rather than effect. For everyday shooting it behaves like any colour negative film.
