About the film

Fujichrome Sensia 400 is a daylight-balanced colour reversal (slide) film from Fujifilm, 135 format, 36 exposures, ISO 400. It is developed in E-6 and gives a positive image straight on the film. Fujifilm discontinued it long ago. It went out of date somewhere between 2003 and 2008.

What to expect

Slide film shows its age more than negative film, and fast emulsions age faster than slow ones. After this long expect possible colour shifts, lower contrast and shallower blacks. How much is not knowable in advance — it depends on how the film was stored.

Who it suits

Anyone who wants to try slide film with expired character, for experiments, for cross-processing in C-41, and for work where unpredictable colour is part of the idea.

One practical note

Give it extra exposure: rate it at ISO 100–200 rather than the nominal 400. Develop in E-6 — or in C-41 if you want a cross-process look. If the frames matter, shoot one roll as a test first.
