About the film

Fujichrome Velvia 50 is a daylight-balanced colour reversal (slide) film from Fujifilm, 135 format, 36 exposures, ISO 50. It is known for saturated colour, high contrast and very fine grain — a landscape classic. It is developed in E-6. This roll predates the 2007 re-release of Velvia 50; it went out of date in April 2003. One roll available.

What to expect

Slow slide films age more gracefully than fast ones, but after more than twenty years expect possible colour shifts, slightly lower contrast and shallower blacks. How much is not knowable in advance — it depends on how the film was stored.

Who it suits

Landscape and still life on a tripod, anyone curious about first-generation Velvia, and collectors.

One practical note

Give it a little extra exposure: rate it at ISO 25–40 rather than the nominal 50 and develop in E-6. Slide film has little latitude, so meter carefully.
