Hanalogital PRISM is an experimental 135 colour film, 36 exposures, ISO 400, C-41 process. It is pre-exposed: part of the image was put onto the emulsion before the roll ever reached its box.
How the picture looks
The effect sits on top of a normally exposed frame. The maker says it plainly: because of how it is applied, the intensity and colour of the pre-exposure differ from frame to frame and from roll to roll. You cannot predict the result, and that is the point of the film.
What to shoot on it
Anything whose outcome is not required to be certain: a walk, a party, a portrait of a friend, any roll shot for yourself. The effect reads better the simpler the frame — in a busy subject it competes with the subject. Do not take this film on a shoot you cannot repeat.
How to shoot it
Like any colour ISO 400: meter at box speed, no compensation. Since there is no telling where the pre-exposure will land, avoid building a frame around one small detail — leave air in it.
Processing and scanning
Ordinary C-41 at any lab. Ask for no automatic colour correction when scanning: the software may read the pre-exposure as an error and try to remove it.
How it compares
It belongs to the same family as Revolog and KONO!: an ordinary colour base plus hand treatment. Hanalogital also make VEINS, with reddish stripes, and LEAK is already in this catalogue.
