KONO! Original Candy is a 135 colour negative film, 36 exposures, ISO 200, C-41 process. The base emulsion is worked by hand on a device the maker calls «The Reanimator», with added tones that produce its characteristic candy colours.
How the picture looks
The colours are shifted on purpose — that is what the film is bought for. Every roll is prepared by hand, so the maker promises no exact repeatability from cassette to cassette: it is a feature, not a fault.
What to shoot on it
Photography for yourself: street, parties, a portrait taken in play, anything where a colour shift belongs and is wanted. For work that has to be delivered with predictable colour, take an ordinary colour film.
How to shoot it
Meter normally, at box speed ISO 200. The effect is already in the film and no filters are needed. Bear in mind that how strong the shift comes out depends on the conditions, so a sunny day and dusk will not look alike.
Processing and scanning
Standard C-41, accepted by any minilab. Do warn the lab that the colours are meant to be like this — otherwise auto-correction at the scan can «fix» exactly what you paid for.
