KONO! Original Mirage is a 135 colour negative film, 36 exposures, ISO 400/27°, DX coded. The effect is put on the film in advance: the maker pre-exposes it on a device of their own called «The Reanimator».
How the effect behaves
The maker describes it as changeable: in daylight it is subtle, sunny and light, and the moment the sun goes down it turns into what they themselves call a saturation monster. The same film gives a different picture before and after sunset.
What you can steer it with
The maker gives two rules. The higher the exposure index, the stronger the effect. The darker the background, the stronger the effect. That hands you two controls: the speed you meter at, and what you put behind your subject.
What to shoot on it
I would shoot an evening city, a gig, a portrait against a dark background — anything where the effect will amplify itself. On a flat daylight landscape it will barely show, and the film will behave like an ordinary ISO 400 colour negative.
Processing
Ordinary C-41. The maker notes that any minilab can process and scan these films.
