About the kit

SPUR UFG Kit III contains two rolls of SPUR UFG black-and-white film in 120 format (12 exposures 6×6 each) and the two-part SPUR UFG-1 developer, 2 × 50 ml, matched to this emulsion.

Image character

UFG is an extremely fine-grained film originally made for aerial photogrammetry. SPUR quotes a resolution of 287 lp/mm at 1000:1 contrast — higher than the best fine-grain ISO 100 films. Its sensitisation reaches far into the red, so it can serve as an infrared substitute.

Why a dedicated developer

In ordinary developers this emulsion gives neither high sharpness nor a good characteristic curve. UFG-1 corrects both while keeping the extremely fine grain.

Practical advice

With UFG-1 you can rate the film anywhere from ISO 40 to ISO 80, and push it to ISO 160. For a red filter and the infrared look, bring a tripod.

Frequently asked questions

Can I develop UFG in another developer?

You can, but SPUR states plainly that ordinary developers give poorer sharpness and a worse curve. That is why the film is sold together with UFG-1.

How many rolls does the developer cover?

The kit is made for the two rolls it contains.
