Description

Svema DS-5M Color is a rare Ukrainian 135 colour film, 36 exposures, ISO 6. For creative analogue photography, retro aesthetics and cameras with manual exposure control.

Who it is for and who it is not for

This film is for photographers looking for an unconventional creative result and comfortable with unpredictable colours. It is not suitable for fully automatic cameras with no manual ISO control, or when a predictable result is essential.

How to shoot ISO 6 film

ISO 6 is an extremely low speed. You need bright daylight or a tripod. Set your camera to ISO 6 or the nearest available value. If your camera does not go that low, use the minimum available ISO and compensate with a longer shutter speed.

Development

The film was designed for the Sovcolor process. Some labs develop it in C-41 — check with your lab before dropping it off. Results may be unpredictable.

What results to expect

Strong colour shifts, increased grain and reduced contrast are typical of this film. This is film for artistic, not commercial, photography.

FAQ

What is the nominal speed of Svema DS-5M?

The nominal speed is ISO 6. This is an extremely low value that requires substantial lighting or a tripod.

Can I shoot Svema DS-5M without a tripod?

In bright light — yes. But because of the very low ISO 6, most indoor, evening or shade conditions will require a tripod or stable support.

What ISO should I set on my camera?

Set ISO 6 or the closest available value. Some film cameras do not go this low — in that case, set the minimum available ISO and adjust shutter speed manually.

Can it be developed in C-41?

Yes, but results may be unpredictable. Svema DS-5M was designed for the Soviet Sovcolor process, but some labs have developed it in C-41 successfully. It is worth checking with your lab before you drop it off.

What results should I expect?

Results can be unpredictable: strong colour shifts, reduced contrast or interesting creative effects. This film is for artistic, not commercial, photography.

Will this film work with my camera?

If your camera lets you set ISO 6 or has a full manual mode — yes. If your camera is fully automatic with no way to adjust ISO manually, a different film would be a better choice.
