Fixation

RF-4 Fast, Slightly Acidic Fixative

Ultra-fast, mildly acidic fixer (2 minutes)—especially effective after using color pyro-developers.

About Fixage

RF-4 is a fast, slightly acidic fixer suitable for processing photographic film and paper. It is ideal for fixing film after processing with dye pyro developers. Due to its short fixing time, it allows you to reduce the film rinsing time after fixing by several times—as practice shows, a 5-minute rinse under running water is more than sufficient. The standard fixing time for film in this fixer is 2 minutes.

Character

Mildly acidic, fast-acting type.

How to Prepare and Use

  1. 1Pour about 700 ml of hot water (50–60 °C) into a 1-liter container and dissolve the contents of the large package (sodium thiosulfate heptahydrate, 200 g).
  2. 2Once it has completely dissolved, add the contents of the medium-sized packet (ammonium chloride, 85 g) and dissolve it completely.
  3. 3Add the contents of the small packet (10 g of sodium sulfite and 3 g of sodium metabisulfite) and dissolve.
  4. 4Let the solution cool to room temperature, bring the volume up to 1 liter, and filter it if necessary.
  5. 5It is recommended to use a stop bath before fixing.
  6. 6Fix the film for 2 minutes at 20 °C; after fixing, a 5-minute rinse under running water is sufficient.
  7. 7You can fix up to 7–8 films in 1 liter; the maximum is 10. For the last 3 films, double the fixing and rinsing times.
