Kiev 6C Medium Format SLR
Description
The Kiev 6C is a Soviet medium-format SLR camera produced at the Arsenal plant in Kyiv, Ukraine. It shoots on 120 film and produces 6×6 cm frames — four times the area of a standard 35 mm frame. The larger negative captures everything analogue optics can offer: smooth tonal gradations, rich shadow and highlight detail, and the characteristic three-dimensional quality of film.
The kit includes the MC Vega-12B 90 mm f/2.8 multi-coated lens — a classic portrait focal length for the 6×6 format. It compresses perspective gently, produces pleasant out-of-focus rendering at open aperture, and delivers a sharp, contrasty image. The Pentacon Six mount (M58×0.75) gives access to a wide range of Soviet and European lenses. The mechanical cloth focal-plane shutter covers B and 1 s to 1/1000 s. The waist-level finder and deliberate manual workflow impose a slow, contemplative shooting pace.
The Kiev 6C is an excellent choice for photographers who have worked with 35 mm and want to step up to a larger negative without a large investment. Manual focus and an unhurried rhythm make every frame a conscious creative act. The camera shines in portraiture, landscape, and fine-art photography.
