An ADOX starter set of Neutol Eco developer and Baby Adofix Plus fixer, 100 ml each: everything needed for a first print on resin-coated black and white paper.

What it is for

The cheapest way to try darkroom printing without buying litre bottles for years ahead. The maker positions it exactly as that: a starter set of the basic chemistry for resin-coated paper. For baryta you will want to add a wash aid — baryta washes far more stubbornly.

How to dilute it

The set covers roughly 4 square metres of paper.

The solution is replenishable — kept and reused, with development time extended as it exhausts. Keep count of the films put through it; that is the only way to avoid an underdeveloped roll at the end of its life.

Storage

Sealed concentrate keeps well but dislikes air: the emptier the bottle, the faster it oxidises. Decant the remainder into a smaller bottle, or displace the air — that is what gets a concentrate to its last measure.

How it compares

The ideal first step. Once it is clear that printing suits you, the same pairing exists in litre bottles and every print costs markedly less.
