Defender’s historic lith developer in two parts, diluted 1+1 to 1+3. A warmer tone and a slightly different grain structure than D-9 — another tool for the same technique.
A different balance of alkali and sulphite gives a slower start and a gentler highlight transition, and the shadow grain comes out finer and warmer. Printers who work in lith regularly usually keep both and choose by the paper in front of them.
Mix A and B before the session, work by eye, pull the sheet at the right moment. The solution ages quickly — that is normal, and part of the result.
How long does the mixed solution last?
One session. Mix as much as you will print in one go.
