Four ready E-6 solutions: black-and-white first developer, colour developer, bleach and fixer. Diluted and ready — all that remains is holding 38 °C and the times in the instructions.

Why E-6 is stricter than C-41

A slide is the final image: no print or scan can correct a mistake, because there is no forgiving negative stage in between. First developer temperature is therefore critical — half a degree shifts the density of the whole frame. Ready solutions remove one variable, dilution, and leave you only temperature and time.

Where the reversal step is

There is no separate reversal bath in this kit: the colour developer carries out the reversal. That is why there are four bottles rather than five, and nothing is missing.

Questions and answers

Do I need a water bath with a thermostat?

Strongly advisable. Holding 38 °C for six minutes in a bowl of hot water is possible, but this is where most failed slides come from.
