Description

The proper cine negative developer, separate from the kit. It is what distinguishes ECN-2 from C-41 and gives the colour rendering the film was designed around.

How it differs from C-41

A different developing agent and a different balance: cine negative is developed to lower contrast because it is printed onto positive stock afterwards. Processing cine film in C-41 works, and many people do it, but the colour is not what the manufacturer intended.

Temperature

41 °C — higher than C-41 and less forgiving. A deviation shifts both density and balance; the bleach and fixer that follow are far more tolerant.

Questions and answers

Do I still need the prebath if I have this developer?

Yes, and before it. Remjet must be washed off before development or the carbon contaminates the solution.
