Foma Fomadon LQN is a liquid concentrate for developing black and white film, 250 ml, from Foma of the Czech Republic.

What it is for

This is the developer in which Fomapan finally delivers its box speed: the supplier calls it the original "magic water" for Fomapan 100 and 400 and says plainly that this is where a 100 develops as a true 100 and a 400 as a true 400. It is strongly compensating: contrast comes out soft, with even, agreeable grey tones.

How to dilute it

It is a one-shot developer: mix the working solution, use it, discard it. That is the most predictable way to work — every film is developed in fresh solution, so times need no extending from roll to roll.

Storage

Sealed concentrate keeps well but dislikes air: the emptier the bottle, the faster it oxidises. Decant the remainder into a smaller bottle, or displace the air — that is what gets a concentrate to its last measure.

How it compares

For Foma films this is the house developer, and hard to beat on results per euro. For other brands, D-76 or Rodinal are more universal; LQN earns its place specifically as the partner to Fomapan.
