Moersch MT5 Sepia is a sulphide toner for black and white prints, 250 ml concentrate.
What it is for
A direct toner for warm-tone emulsions: on such paper it works immediately, with no bleaching step. Cold and neutral papers tone too, but indirectly — bleach first, then tone, and the colour comes out stronger. Beyond colour, sepia does what selenium does: the silver converts to a more stable compound and the print becomes archival.
How to dilute it
The hue can be mixed: for warmer browns the maker suggests adding the Siena sulphide toner, for cooler purples other formulas in the Moersch range. Indirect toning needs a bleach — there is one in this same catalogue.
Storage
Sealed concentrate keeps well but dislikes air: the emptier the bottle, the faster it oxidises. Decant the remainder into a smaller bottle, or displace the air — that is what gets a concentrate to its last measure.
How it compares
The classic look of an old photograph, unmistakable. Selenium is subtler and works mainly for permanence; sepia is a visible decision about how the print should look.
