The last C-5168 solution: it washes out the silver halide and leaves a clear colour negative.
On allowing a margin
An under-fixed negative yellows and clouds over the years as residual halide slowly darkens. Over-fixing colour film is practically impossible, so allow extra time rather than less.

Can a black-and-white fixer be used?
At a pinch — the base is the same thiosulphate. The proper solution is formulated for this process’s pH and timing.
