The C-9165 bleach: it removes the silver left by both developments so only the dyes of the positive image remain.

The sign it is spent

A greyish veil in the shadows of a finished slide almost always means the bleach is no longer coping. It can be aerated, but eventually it is replaced.

Can the E-6 bleach be used?

The processes differ in sequence and timing. For a predictable result use the proper one.
