Rollei RLC Low Contrast is a liquid concentrate for black and white film, 250 ml, deliberately low in contrast.
What it is for
This is the key to technical and document films. Those emulsions are inherently very contrasty — in an ordinary developer they give black and white with almost nothing between. RLC tames the curve far enough that a document film becomes usable for ordinary subjects: the negatives come out extremely fine-grained with a full tonal range. How far it softens is set by development time.
How to dilute it
The working dilution is 1+4.
A litre of working solution yields up to 16 films.
It is a one-shot developer: mix the working solution, use it, discard it. That is the most predictable way to work — every film is developed in fresh solution, so times need no extending from roll to roll.
Storage
Sealed concentrate keeps well but dislikes air: the emptier the bottle, the faster it oxidises. Decant the remainder into a smaller bottle, or displace the air — that is what gets a concentrate to its last measure.
How it compares
Its direct rival is SPUR's own Dokuspeed SL-N, which exists for the same job. With a document film like SPUR DSX or Agfa Copex in the camera the choice is between those two; for ordinary films RLC is simply too soft.
