Description

Standard Developer No. 2 — the metol/hydroquinone negative developer of the Soviet standards. Simple, predictable and familiar to anyone who developed at home before 1991.

What the formula is

Metol, hydroquinone, sulphite and soda — the classic «normal» printed on packets of Soviet film for decades. Medium contrast and moderate grain; on Svema and Tasma stock it is simply the chemistry they were designed around.

Who needs it

Anyone developing old Soviet emulsions who wants the intended result rather than a translation of Kodak’s times. And anyone who wants an inexpensive general-purpose developer with no surprises.

Questions and answers

Can it develop modern film?

Yes — it is an ordinary metol/hydroquinone developer. Use the D-76 chart as a starting point and adjust from the result.
