Hypo Check — a solution for checking the effectiveness of the fixative

Just a few drops—and you can immediately tell whether you can still use the hairspray or if it's time to replace it.

About the Hypo Check Test

Hypo Check is a ready-to-use test solution that allows you to instantly and accurately determine the suitability of a developer. It is suitable for rapid testing of any fixer: brand-name or its homemade equivalent, neutral, acidic, accelerated, or fast—whether based on sodium thiosulfate or ammonium thiosulfate. It is sold in a bottle with a dropper cap holding approximately 10 ml, which is sufficient for an average of 30–40 tests, and retains its properties for several years.

How to Use

  1. 1Pour a small amount (10–20 ml) of the fixative you want to test into any clear container.
  2. 2Add a few drops (3–5) of Hypo Check test solution from the dropper bottle.
  3. 3If the adhesive is still clear, it hasn't dried out, and you can continue to use it.
  4. 4If the solution has become cloudy but clears up again after a gentle shake, the fixative is nearly depleted.
  5. 5If the solution has become cloudy and remains cloudy after shaking, the fixative is completely depleted and can no longer be used.

Pros

  • Versatile—suitable for any type of fastener
  • The result is visible immediately, without the need for laboratory testing
  • One vial is good for dozens of tests
  • It stays fresh on the shelf for a long time

Cons

  • This is a ready-made, store-bought reagent—the manufacturer does not disclose its composition, and it cannot be prepared at home using a proven recipe
  • It provides only a qualitative assessment (“serviceable / borderline / worn out”), rather than the exact remaining life of the films
